With warm weather expected this week, Martin Mere provides a great opportunity for nature lovers to come and explore. Over the weekend, an endangered Red Squirrel was spotted in front of the Ron Barker hide. We hope more of these beautiful creatures will come to inhabit the woodlands on the site.

Also seen from Ron Barker today were 4 Pink-Footed Geese, 2 Whooper Swans, 1 Kingfisher and a family of 5 Marsh Harriers. Over the weekend, 2 Hobbies were spotted.

A Peregrine was sighted on Sunday flying over the Mere, in the pursuit of a fleeing Jay. If you want to see bird of prey action, Kestrels can be best observed at Long Meadow field, on route to the Tomlinson hide.

Woodend Marsh (Gordon Taylor, Rees, and Tomlinson hides) has hosted a variety of wading birds. Observations include 50 Lapwing, 5 Ruff, 1 Wood Sandpiper, 1 Dunlin, 3 Little Ringed Plovers, and 2 Green Sandpipers. Additionally, 1 Common Sandpiper and 4 Snipe were spotted on the Mere, and another Green Sandpiper was seen at the Ron Barker hide.
