Latest Sightings

Bird life has been abundant this week here on the reserve at Martin Mere as more wintering birds arrive.
The 2 Glossy Ibis have been seen frequently today and throughout the week from the United Utilities, Discovery and Ron Barker hides. It has been more than a month since the first individual arrived in September.
On the main mere recently, 57 Whooper Swans, 5 Marsh Harriers, 5 Pochard, 3 Snipe, 1 Buzzard and 9 Cormorants were observed from the Bird Observatory and Discovery hide.
Down along the path to Janet Kear hide, 2 Long-Tailed Tits were seen. Further along from Harrier hide, 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 16 Shovelers, 6 Ruff, 13 Tufted Ducks, 285 Teal, 1 Little Grebe and 22 Lapwings were spotted.
Past Janet Kear and next to the path towards United Utilities hide, 3 Treecreepers were seen on a tree calling and feeding on invertebrates. 1 Goldcrest was also spotted in the trees. From United Utilities hide itself, 3 Magpies, 1 Grey Heron and 1 Kestrel were seen.
Along the path toward the Gordon Taylor hide, 2 Reed Buntings were spotted. From Gordon Taylor hide, 16 Cattle Egrets were seen feeding alongside our herd of English longhorn cattle.
At Ron Barker hide, 1 Sparrowhawk was seen today flying at great speed through the air.
