This week we have had a high count of 11,000 Pink-footed Geese migrating down to Martin Mere. Other exciting migration movements include small pulses of Redwing and the first Fieldfare for the season.

Linnet have begun gathering in large flocks and on Thursday Starling murmurations were seen swirling over the reedbeds, their numbers growing into the evening. We are open for a Late Night Goose Event on Saturday, so this would be a good time to see this wildlife spectacle.

A Short-eared Owl was spotted on the reserve on Thursday! The best place to view this beautiful raptor is from Tomlinson Hide. Ten Marsh Harrier were spotted from Ron Barker and two Kingfisher are regularly showing well from this site too.

A final notable bird of the week is a single Bittern. This was sighted on Thursday, skulking about in the reedbed east of Harrier Hide.

We are still regularly seeing two Glossy Ibis about the reserve, and these can be reliably spotted from United Utilities and Discovery Hide at the back of the Mere.
