Latest sightings
It has been another busy week at Martin Mere, with all the usual wintering wildfowl species present throughout the site. On the mere you can expect to see Whooper Swans, Pochard, Wigeon, Shelduck and Pintail. While both Harrier hide and Gordon Taylor provides a great view of Teal and Shoveler.
After our site record count of Cattle Egret (74), activity continues to bustle with 43 birds being reported across the mere this afternoon. 3 Great White Egrets were also counted.
During the same count, 29 Marsh Harriers were seen across the site. They can often be seen coming into roost in the late afternoon from Ron Barker. This hide also provides a good view of Barn Owls with reports on both Thursday and Saturday.
Finally our visiting thrushes have been active, with Fieldfare (25) being reported on the path towards Ron Barker and Redwing being seen on the nature trail towards Harrier hide.
