Latest Sightings
As the build up to Christmas day begins, we've had a weekend of regular visitors to the site. The Short-Eared Owl continues to show well on the field near Tomlinson Hide. Alongside this a Barn Owl could be seen at Tomlinson too. The Glossy Ibis has made a return on the mere over the weekend, it was often viewed from the Discovery hide but has more recently been sighted from Gordon Taylor Hide. The Ring-Necked Duck is still visible from the Discovery hide and has settled in well among the Tufted Ducks.
Water Rails were heard calling in the reedbed too, often described as sounding like a pig squealing. Over at Ron Barker, Great White Egrets have been showing well. Cattle Egrets are also easily viewable from this hide with the cows. At Janet Kear hide 4 Redpoll were seen among the trees and at United Utilities hide a Peregrine was seen darting about over the fields. Many Whooper Swans continue to show well for over the Christmas period too.
