Latest Sightings
A frosty start to the new year and we've done our weekly geese and swan count this week. We've had a total of 5121 Pink-Footed Geese and 782 Whooper Swans. Over the weekend 2 Otters were spotted at Ron Barker Hide splashing about in the water. We've had a variety of geese spotted too on Saturday; 1 Barnacle Goose, 1 Brent Goose and 1 Russian White-Fronted Goose. There was a Ring-Tailed Hen Harrier spotted from United Utilities Hide.
The Short-Eared Owl continues to show well over the fields at the back of the reserve near to Tomlinson Hide. The Glossy Ibis was sighted over the weekend from Gordon Taylor Hide, however, it is looking like the frosty weather has caused it to move on. 1 Water Rail was spotted at Ron Barker hide and a Peregrine was spotted flying over the Mere, viewable from Discovery Hide. The stunning Drake Ring-Necked Duck is also still viewable from Discovery Hide.
