Latest sightings
The Ring-Necked Duck continues to be seen on the mere, best observed from Discovery hide. This hide has also provides a great view of a Knot, with the latest sighting being yesterday. On Sunday 114 Black-Tailed Godwits, 58 Oystercatchers, 24 Ruff and 2 Curlews (the first of the year) were recorded on the mere. Two more first's of the year were reported on the mere over the weekend with both Avocet (2) and Redshank being seen.
Over at Plover field (best viewed from United Utilities), 12 Russian White-fronted geese were seen on Saturday. While a Barnacle goose was present on Sunday. This hide also provides a good view of Barn Owls. They can often be seen flying over the reserve during late afternoon.
Ron Barker is another hide that provides a great view of Barn Owls, with one being reported on Sunday. On the same day a Woodcock and Glossy Ibis were also seen from this hide.
At Janet Kear, 3 Redpoll were reported on Saturday. While the Leucistic Reed Bunting continues to be present at this hide also.
