Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Lots of fledglings on the feeders at Janet Kear hide including great tits, blue tits, chaffinches, goldfinches, greenfinches, bullfinches and great spotted woodpeckers.

The oystercatcher chick in the grounds has fledged and is often seen with it's parents by the Chilean flamingos. There are some large avocet chicks on the mere. Ringed plovers on woodend marsh.

Most of the black-headed gull chicks have fledged, the tern chicks are getting bigger.

Lots of ducklings around, pochard in front of Ron Barker, tufted ducks on the mere.

The reedbed walk is a must, lots of singing warblers and great views of the great-crested grebes.

Lots of butterflies and dragonflies on the wing including brown hawkers and black-tailed skimmers
