The good weather continues at Martin Mere with our ducks and waders showing well throughout the reserve, the Wetland Bird Survey conducted earlier this week counted the following species numbers:
8 Wigeon
14 Gadwall
2 Teal
346 Mallard
2 Pintail
8 Shoveler
8 Pochard
19 Tufted Duck
140 Shelduck
53 Lapwing
29 Black-tailed Godwit
3 Oystercatcher
25 Avocet
411 Black-headed Gull.
Our reserve team have also been surveying the nest boxes over the past couple of months and so far we estimate the following numbers of successful fledglings
48 Blue tits
32 Great tits
3 Tree Sparrows
