Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Marsh Harrier

A juvenile Marsh Harrier was seen around the reserve today along with the usual Buzzard and Kestrel.

A 1st summer Little Gull and 1st summer Mediterranean Gull were on the Mere mid afternoon.

A brood of 4 Gadwall chicks were accompanying mum around the Mere today, also a brood of 14 Mallard chicks.

Lots of young Warblers moving around at the moment with Whitethroat and 2 Chiffchaff around the In Focus shop today.

Upto 9 Ruff, 3 Common Sandpiper, Little Ringed Plover and 100+ Black-tailed Godwit were all on the Mere today.
