Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

More of Summer

Another glorious day, very pleasant as the cool breeze comes through the hide windows. Not a huge number of reports today but notable species have included 2 Common Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper and 2 Common Tern all on the Mere.

A male Kingfisher put in an appearance from the Ron Barker Hide. This species tends to start showing regularly from this point onwards in the season.

Kestrels have been showing well hunting near the hides.

Plenty of dragon and damselfly activity along the Reedbed Walk. If you want a really close view visit the Canoe Safari for a pleasant paddle around and some excellent photographic opportunity.
