Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Pink-footed Geese

As predicted on Tuesday the weather charts held firm and an influx of Pink-footed Geese started to arrive. No counts as such although some massed airborne skeins had over 3000 birds as they moved locally and countless small groups were dropping in from high into the local area.

New Pinks dropping in.

Looking ahead there should be many more birds arriving including the possibility of a early Whooper Swan or two as birds have turned up at Caerlaverock and also further North.

Saturday's Metoffice chart shows the airflow continuing from Iceland.
