Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December

Some of our birds will be off display on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December, while vets carry out some routine health checks. If you would still like to visit us on these days, admission tickets will only be available on arrival and will be reduced to £10 an adult and £5 a child.

Recent Sightings

The Green Woodpecker was seen again around the Canoe Safari area in the collection, it was heard calling -'yaffling' before it was seen flying towards Marsh Moss Lane area. Grey Wagtails are being heard/seen most days now on site, a sure sign of autumn!

Also a juvenile Wood Sandpiper was seen again this afternoon from Ron Barker, this is presumably the same bird that has been around for a while now, but hadn't been reported since the 2nd of the month so possibly a new bird. A group of 4 juvenile Dunlin, 30+ Ruff, 50+ Snipe were on view from the same are this afternoon. Also excellent numbers of Teal building up there with at least 500 in the area.

Up to 5 Marsh Harriers have been seen over the last couple of days, 2 fresh juveniles, a 1st summer, an adult male and an adult female type. Also several Common Buzzard, 4+ Kestrel, 2-3 Sparrowhawk and a Hobby was seen again.

Two Wheatear were in the ploughed fields along Curlew Lane just offsite yesterday.

Also yesterday morning some ringing in the Reedbed Walk area resulted in the following birds being caught and ringed: 2 juv Bullfinch, juv Blue Tit and Great Tit, 2 Reed Warbler, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Whitethroat and a Chiffchaff.

A few Pink-footed Geese have been seen in Scotland today so we should hopefully have some birds with us soon!
