Kingfishers delight the Slimbridge Visitors
A pair of kingfishers which are building a nest in a bank are delighting visitors to WWT Slimbridge.
The brightly coloured birds are easy to see from the Kingfisher hide and visitors have been treated to views of them excavating a nest hole and feeding.
Dave Paynter, reserve manager, said: “WWT Slimbridge has always been a great place to see views of kingfishers. This year we have three pairs on the site with this couple very visible from a hide.
“They have suffered a bit in the last couple of cold winters so it is brilliant to see them making such a strong return this year.”

This picture of the female was taken by our warden James Lees. Female kingfishers have a lighter orange coloured lower bill whereas the male’s bill is all black.
