Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Bird News

Tawny Owl twitchers were not disappointed as the bird showed well today between the Janet Kear and United Utilities Hides in the first tree after the Holly (on the left) over the path.

An adult winter Med Gull was on the Mere with Black-headed Gulls mid-afternoon, also present Lesser and Great Black-backed Gulls.

Three Peregrine until early afternoon, Marsh Harrier, Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk.

At least 800 Lapwing, 50+ Ruff and Common Snipe.

1200+ Whooper Swan roosting.

Nearby at in the Crossens Channel near Marshside RSPB, a drake Baikal Teal, nice.
