Daily wild bird feed
Join us for the daily feeds and see thousands of migratory birds up close
Join our wardens to watch the amazing spectacle as thousands of wild migratory birds gather to feed up-close to our viewing hides.
Whooper swans, wigeon, pintail, greylag geese, shelduck and more will join the feed daily at 3pm as our warden delivers live commentary about these species and their journeys to spend the winter with us here at Martin Mere.
For those wanting a quieter experience, head to the Raines Observatory at 3:30pm for a feed without the commentary.
FAQs
Do I need to book for this activity?
No booking is needed to take part in this activity, and it is included as part of your admission tickets or WWT membership. Just come along to the Discovery Hide at 3pm or Raines Observatory at 3:30pm.
Do I need binoculars to see the birds?
No, the best part about this activity is that the birds will come up-close to the hides to feed. They will be right in front of the windows, so no binoculars are needed!
What wildlife can I expect to see?
The mere comes alive with thousands of birds throughout the autumn and winter. You may see amazing species up close such as black-tailed godwit, gadwall, pochard, tufted duck, lapwing, snipe and ruff.
Why do you feed the wild birds?
WWT Martin Mere is a safe haven for thousands of migratory species that come to spend the colder months with us. We want to make sure their stay with us is comfortable and it also helps to deter them from visiting nearby farmers fields.
Is this activity accessible?
Our hides that we use for the Daily Wild Bird feeds are located close to the centre’s main entrance, meaning they are only a few minutes walk away from when you arrive. Additionally, they are wheelchair friendly with level access and paved pathways leading up to them.
