A Knot has been sighted over the last couple of days on the mere. It can often be seen amongst Ruff and Black Tailed Godwits during our daily feeds, best viewed from Discovery hide. This hide also provides the best view of the drake Ring-Necked Duck. From Discovery hide you can also expect to see Whooper Swans, Wigeon, Pintail, Shelduck, Pochard (87 being counted this morning) and Mallard. While Oystercatcher numbers have increased this week with 28 being counted on Wednesday.

Yesterday afternoon, 4 Russian Greater White Fronted Geese were seen flying over the mere. It is worth looking closely at our flocks of Pink Footed Geese, as other species such as Greater White Fronted and Barnacle Geese are often present.

A number of Barn Owls have been reported across the reserve in the last week, the best place to view them is from United Utilities and Ron Barker hide.

While both Rees and Gordon Taylor hides provide a good view of Shoveler, Teal and often Glossy Ibis.
