Latest Sightings

Breeding season has continued strong, with a few Avocet chicks visible on Woodend Marsh along with at least 30 adults. Across the islands on the Mere, plenty of Black-headed gull nests, as well as some chicks can be seen - the chicks are well camouflaged so keep your eyes peeled!

Notably, up to two Hobbies have been seen on our outer reserve behind Tomlinson hide and one was seen from Ron Barker hide. On Woodend marsh, from Tomlinson and Gordon Taylor hides, one Wood sandpiper has still been seen feeding, along with one Little Ringed Plover, four Ruff, and up to 10 Common tern.

Two Bitterns have still been heard in the Reedbed, as well as a couple of sightings of them seen flying overhead. This could potentially indicate a male continuing to highlight his presence or even a female foraging for food to take back to their nest. Also in the Reedbed, a Kingfisher has been spotted hunting, along with six Little Grebe and four Great Crested Grebe.
