Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

White Wags

A few White Wagtails dropped in this morning on the Mere. Willow Warbler singing near the Kingfisher Hide, still plenty of Blackcap and Chiffchaff around. Sand Martin and Swallow moving through and just down the road, returning House Martin.

Nice to see some migrant waders with 20+ Dunlin new in. The breeding plumage male Ruff is still present, regularly along the back of the Mere. Other waders included 100+ Lapwing with the first nest of with eggs recorded today, 40+ Avocet, 6+ Redshank, 10+ Black-tailed Godwit, 10 Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover and Common Snipe.

The adult male Marsh Harrier was seen quartering the reeds in front of the Harrier Hide. Other raptors included 4+ Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Two Raven also seen today.
