Full line-up of guest speakers announced for this year's North West Bird Watching Festival

WWT Martin Mere has announced an exciting roster of guest speakers for this year’s North West Bird Watching Festival, taking place on 18–19 October. The Lancashire festival promises to be a celebration of wildlife and conservation with talks from some of the UK’s leading naturalists, conservationists, photographers, and authors.
Across both days, visitors will hear from a mix of experts, including:
- Wildlife photographers Ben Hall and Nick Wilcox-Brown, who will share their passion for capturing birds and nature through the lens.
- Conservationists and ecologists such as Alasdair McKee from RSPB, Matt Phelps from the Knepp Estate, and Martin Mere’s own Centre Manager, Nick Brooks.
- Naturalists and authors including Charlie Bingham, Conor Jameson, and Lucy Lapwing, who will explore how birds and wildlife shape our lives, our history, and the way we see the world.
- Specialist groups and educators such as Wader Quest, the Lancashire Badger Group, and Simon Cordingley from The Bee Centre, who will broaden the conversation beyond birds to include badgers, bees, and wider biodiversity.
In addition to the talks, the festival will feature bird ringing demonstrations, photography workshops, wildlife exhibitors, and the chance to witness one of Lancashire’s best spectacles: the arrival of thousands of pink-footed geese on the mere.
Talks are free to attend (admission applies with WWT members entering free) but must be booked on the day at the information desk, on a first-come, first-served basis. A full list of guest speakers can be found on the WWT Martin Mere website.
You can also save 10% on admissions when you prebook online via the Martin Mere website.
