What’s On This Christmas at WWT Martin Mere

What’s On This Christmas at WWT Martin Mere

This festive season, escape the hustle and bustle and spend time in nature at WWT Martin Mere in Burscough, Lancashire. The centre is open every day throughout the holidays (expect Christmas Day), with an early 3pm close on Christmas Eve.

From 20 December 2025 until 4 January 2026, families can enjoy a range of visitor favourites. Meet wetland species from around the world including flamingos, southern screamers, Hawaiian geese and more with over 70 species to discover. Join the daily otter feed in the morning and afternoon and find out more about the pair of Asian small-clawed otters, Penny and Kenai.

Families can head to the craft room from 12-3pm each day of the holidays and get creative with a range of free and paid for colouring and crafts.

A must see is the daily wild bird feeds, which take place each day from the Discovery Hide at 3pm. This will be accompanied by a warden’s commentated talk about the extraordinary migratory journey of whooper swans from Iceland and why they spend the colder months here at Martin Mere.

At the feed, the whoopers will be joined by other amazing species such as wigeon and pintail, for a spectacular up-close view with no binoculars needed. Don’t forget to pick up a free winter wildlife researcher booklet from the information desk and spot the different species whilst you walk amongst the wetlands.
