Latest Sightings
The past few days on the Reserve have produced some great sightings for birders enjoying a cooler weekend.
On Woodend Marsh, three Black-tailed Godwit have been seen, along with a pair of Green Sandpiper which have been present since last week. A family group of three juvenile Redshank has also been seen here, overseen by at least one parent – these are recently fledged birds, so keep an eye out for their practise flights. 13 Teal were also recorded.
The Mere has produced a Mediterranean Gull with at least one chick, as well as four Common Tern and a pair of Teal. Two over-summering Pink-footed Geese have also been present.
Ron Barker has produced a Kingfisher in recent days, along with up to 11 Cattle Egret associating with our herd of English Longhorn cattle on Sunley’s Marsh. The Marsh Harriers continue to show well over the reedbeds here, and up to three Great Egret have been showing well on the pools.
Great-crested Grebes have been present on the Reedbed Lagoon, as well as a family of Little Grebes. Keep an eye out for the Bittern flying over the reedbed from here.
