Bittern, kingfishers, lapwings & oystercatchers
Reserve Supervisor Rosie flushed up a bittern about 5m away from the front of the Scrape hide this morning (Thurs 21 March) while working in the area. Kingfishers have been using the nest hole 5 in the Arun Riverlife nest bank again this year. There has been other kingfisher sighting around the reserve as well. Oystercatcher pair have been spotted on the Waterside walk area and back on Pelican cove.Thanks volunteer Andy Burns for the oystercatcher photo above.

Scrape hide: 1 bittern flushed 12 greylag geese, 3 shoveler, 18 mallards, 20 black-headed gulls, 2 teal, 7 Canada geese, 2 gadwall, 1 moorhen, 2 tufted ducks, 1 snipe, 1 chiff chaff, and 1 little grebe
Reedbed: 14 greylag geese
Discovery hide: 1 kingfisher, 1 jack snipe, 16 snipe.

Trumpeter Pen in Wood loop: 4 mandarin ducks (2 pairs)
