AW on red alert

Today saw our male osprey AW spending a lot of time on the nest. He was looking around constantly only pausing from scanning the horizon to rearrange sticks on the nest and to mate with the female. When not on the nest he was on a nearby tree still on red alert. We did not see our intruder male today on the CCTV but the behaviour of the birds at the nest suggest that he is maybe still about. Looking at the CCTV footage from yesterday in detail showed the female and the white ringed male on the nest at 12.38pm when AW arrived and he landed right on top of the female. His rival flew off straight away and AW landed back down beside his mate. He mantled her and the nest before taking off in hot pursuit! It looks like AW may have won the day but there may still be trouble ahead in the next few days if he goes off on long fishing trips.

The BBC were down at the centre today to film the 'Love triangle' story from our DVD highlights from yesterday so we should have some coverage this evening on BBC Radio Scotland Drivetime and possibly on BBC TV Reporting Scotland from 6.30pm to 7pm depending on election coverage.
