Peregrines and Kingfisher

One of the highlights of any autumn trip to the Mere has to be the family group of Peregrines which are normally present on the fenceposts around the reserve, and they are back for another autumn hopefully! A pair of adults with a single juvenile were seen for the first time this 'autumn'. Other new birds today included a juvenile Marsh Harrier which was touring the reserve with an escort at times of 20 Black headed Gulls!

A Kingfisher was showing well from Ron Barker on and off today along with a Barn Owl which put in a few appearances. A Little Egret was seen from a few hides today but no sign of the 2 Great White Egrets from yesterday, lets hope they re-appear soon.

Three Common Tern were present briefly in the afternoon and the waders continue to trickle through, with 2 adult Dunlin new in and Snipe were much more obvious today with at least 10 birds around the reserve. At least 3 Common Sandpiper and 2 Green Sandpiper can be seen at the moment, and 12 Ruff were on show most of the day from Ron Barker along with 30 Black tailed Godwit and 3 juv Little ringed Plover were joined by a juvenile Ringed Plover this afternoon.
