Snow Goose

The Lesser Snow Goose (white morph) which has been roaming the area with Pink-footed Geese for the last week put in an appearance when it flew North over the reserve early afternoon. The bird was seen out on the Ribble with Pink's yesterday so hopefully we'll get another chance to see this bird again. It is the first record of this species on the reserve for ~ 10 years.

Another new species for the year a female Bullfinch was found along the Reed Bed Walk. At least 3 Chiffchaff near the Sewage Works. The Willow Tit was seen again on the feeders from the Janet Kear Hide giving us hope that it will hang around over the winter.

An unconfirmed report of Green-winged Teal this morning from the Harrier Hide but no further sign, although this is a species that should appear again fairly soon.

Other reports included 4+ Common Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, 2 Kestrel, 2 Sparrowhawk, Barn Owl and Tawny Owl.

Should get a few counts tomorrow but at least 10,000 Pink's coming into roost and I would imagine the Whooper Swan count to be over 1000 unless some have headed off to Welney without more arriving.
