Recent sightings - 22nd January
The following sightings were recorded today by Toni Castello, warden, at low tide.
Estuary
Redshank 80, Curlew 20, Oystercatcher 4, Shelduck +150, Brent geese 70, Wigeon 3, Common Teal 3, Black-headed gull 1, Lesser black-backed gull 1. A buzzard passed flying over the lough, souththwards.
Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre
Mallard +150, Tufted duck 15, Black-headed gull 29, Coot 1, Mute swan 1. A possible hybrid Mallard x Tufted is being very frequent:
Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide
Curlew 1, Black-tailed godwit 1, Redshank 2, Oystercatcher 4.
Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog
Mallard 50, Coot 1.
Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory
Little grebe 2, Redshank 1, Greenshank 1, Black-headed gull 1. The Kingfisher was performing extraordinary fishing dips this morning.
