Skua!

The weather today looked superb for bringing in something unusual, very low cloud and rain/drizzle. Good numbers of Snipe with at least 250 possibly more were an indication of new birds in. Then at midday a pale adult/sub adult Arctic Skua flew over the In Focus shop coming from inland and headed over toward UU Hide and was then lost to view. Probably the second record for the reserve?

Not many other sightings reported today but a Barn Owl was out hunting on the edge of the reserve at the back of Woodend Marsh from UU Hide this afternoon. Also at least 2 Peregrines were active on and off. Up to 8 Common Buzzard including the 2 pale birds.

Still at least 30+ Ruff including good numbers of juvenile birds. Two Black-tailed Godwit on Woodend Marsh.

Grey Wagtails have been seen most days recently along with small flocks of Skylarks in the area.

Good numbers of Pink-footed Geese but no sign of any Barnacles today or the leucistic bird.

See previous days for a fuller picture of sightings. Please call in to the In Focus shop to report any sightings
