Braced for another windy day

Any time spent watching wild birds today highlights how much effort is needed for them to stay on their feet, the very gusty winds (up to 50mph) were certainly challenging.

Sightings for today as follows.

Tack Piece

Two Common Sandpipers, 4 Ruff (long stayer and 3 passage birds), Greenshank, 8 Redshank, Snow Goose, 2 Swallow, 2 House and 200 Sand Martin, 5 Wigeon and drake Pochard.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

Pair of Pochard, Common Sandpiper, possibly visiting from Tack Piece. Spotted Redshank (has also been on Tack Piece), 6 Redshank and 22 Avocet + 2 Oystercatcher.

Estuary Tower

Spoonbill in flight coming in from the North, it ended up settling at the South Lake. Marsh Harrier male hunting over the reserve ranging widely. Two male Wheatears, one initially just East of the scrape and another Middle Point, Whimbrel with 14 Curlew, feeding Black-headed Gulls, a few Redshank and Lapwing on the Dumbles.

South Lake

Top New Piece- Spoonbill, nesting Crane. South Lake- 3cy Mediterranean Gull plus Shoveler, Teal, Gadwall and a single Lapwing.
