Curlew Sandpipers

The Curlew Sandpipers are still present fluctuating over the last few days between 5 and 7 birds, 7 were again seen this afternoon. The Little Stint was accompanying a single Dunlin and several Black tailed godwits on Vinson's most of the day.

Wildfowl numbers are increasing with a noticeable influx of Wigeon in recent days with at least 50-60 birds now using the reserve along with 800+ Teal and 700+ Pink footed Geese including a neck collared bird (CLA) as well as a few Pintail and good numbers of Gadwall and Shoveler.

At least 3 Marsh Harriers again with the green wing tagged Norfolk bird seen again plus regular sightings of 3+ Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and 8+ Common Buzzard. The Tawny Owl was in the usual roosting area in between Janet Kear and UU hide but only partly visible today.

Late afternoon 2 Yellow Wagtails were on the Mere before flying off over the collection and another bird was later calling in flight over the In Focus shop early evening. Other sightings include 2 Raven and Kingfisher on and off throughout the day.

Several Migrant Hawker Dragonflies can be seen each day at the moment around the reserve along with plenty of Common Darters, with at least 23 counted sunning themselves on the fenced butterfly 'garden' by the exit gate in recent days. Another fantastic sighting was an Elephant Hawk Moth Caterpillar  found by a volunteer in his garden today.
