The first osprey egg of the three laid this year hatched out on Sunday morning the 25th of May with the 2nd & 3rd hopefully due to hatch in the next few days at probably two day intervals. If they all hatch out successfully, this brings the grand total of osprey eggs hatched from this nest to eleven. This is the second season that this pair have bred successfully on this nest. The female osprey has been coming here since 2007 but her original mate AW didn’t appear back from Africa in 2012 and male yellow 80 took his place. The first year they were unsuccessful but they fledged two chicks in 2013 and hopefully three this year. Why not come down to the centre to watch the young osprey chicks on the nest on the big screen in our coffee shop which becomes the ‘osprey café’ at this time of year. Sit back and enjoy a cuppa and light meal or some home baking and watch the action unfold. An osprey expert will be on hand every day at 12 noon to give a short talk about ospreys in general and an update on the Caerlaverock ospreys. You can also view online from 10am to 5pm on the WWT website at www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/experience/webcams/caerlaverock-ospreys/  .This is a joint project and we thank our partners, Forestry Commission Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage for their help and support in making this a success story.
