Recent Sightings – 7th August

The following sightings were recorded today from the reserve at Castle Espie. The weather has been mixed lately but there has been some interesting sightings of birds of prey recently, including Kestrel, Peregrine, Sparrow hawk and Osprey.

Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Oystercatcher 80, Curlew 5, Black-headed Gull 28, Lesser black-backed gull 2, Little egret 3.

Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 50, Graylag goose 5, Tufted 9, Moorhen 2, Black-headed gull 5, Moorhen 2, Coot 4

Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Mallard 3, Black-headed gull 2, Graylag goose 4, Moorhen 3, Coot 2

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Little egret 1, Mallard 15, Moorhen 1

Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory

Little grebe 2, Kingfisher 1,

We have also had a few spot of Common darter and Common hawker on the ponds in the reserve
