Recent Sightings 8th January 2018

A very frosty morning here on the reserve, with the Freshwater Lagoon, Main Lake and Limestone Lake partially frozen. The following sightings were recorded today from the reserve at Castle Espie.

Estuary – visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Shelduck 484, Oystercatcher 254, Brent goose 5, Curlew 6, Grey plover 32, Black-tailed godwit 5, Lapwing 2, Redshank 4, Black-headed gull 90, Great black-backed gull 1

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Cormorant 3, Mallard 306, Black-headed gull 62, Moorhen 2, Common gull 1, Tufted duck 49, Coot 2, Greylag 1

Wader marsh – visible from the lookout and the Brent Hide

Lapwing 1, Black-headed gull 3, Redshank 2, Oystercatcher 1, Mallard 1, Moorhen 7

Freshwater Lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannóg

Mute swan 1, Mallard 2, Moorhen 2, Grey heron 1

Saline Lagoon – visible from Lime Kiln Observatory
