Friday's sightings

A lovely sunny morning on the reserve with a great selection of birds on offer, not least on the river.

Mid Point

A small flock of 8 Sanderling were on the mud this morning along with 6 Ringed Plover and 6 Dunlin.  A total of 273 Curlew left the spartina island roost with 176 heading north up the river to feed off the shore at Frampton whilst the remaining 97 remained to the south of Mid Point.  Also here were 5 Little Egret, 3 Grey Heron and at least 146 Shelduck.

South Lake Hides

A Spotted Redshank was on the scrape with 29 Redshank along with 6 Snipe, a Green Sandpiper, 102 Black-tailed Godwit, 201 Lapwing and 15 Ruff. Duck on deep lake include 4 Pochard, 37 Tufted Duck and 32 Shoveler.  Two Grey Heron were present along with 6 Cormorant and 2 Great Crested Grebe.

Zeiss Hide

Birds on the scrape included a Greenshank, 2 Grey Heron, 114 Barnacle Geese, 21 Wigeon, 2 Pintail, 223 Teal, 4 Gadwall and 6 Shoveler.
