Holden Tower

A pair of Blackcap, a Chiffchaff, tit flock and 4 Magpies in the bushes, three Chaffinch flew out. On the Dumbles a Peregrine and 2 Buzzard were seen with a small flock of both Barnacle and Greylag Geese.

Knott Hide

Water Rail and Chiffchaff.

Martin Smith Hide

A Common Snipe was present but the Jack Snipe wasn't seen first thing, it often appears later.

South Lake

70 Teal, 89 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 30 Tufted Duck, 1 Little Grebe, 4 Ruff, 16 Black-tailed Godwit, 12 Redshank, 6 Snipe and a Crane among the highlights. 350+ Black-headed Gull gathered on the scrape. Water levels are coming up after the welcome rainfall. The duck marsh is beginning to fill after drying up over the summer.

Tack Piece

At least 300 Teal, 6 Wigeon, 11 Black-tailed Godwit and 50 Lapwing on the scrape. A Siskin was in the alders along the path.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

Annual reserve management work here today, excavator on site to level and flatten last years silt, a de-silt the west ditch, slubbings will be placed on the scrape side. Also some fence repairs. When this work is completed we hope to return to the Bottom New Piece to continue with various project there. Apologies for localised disturbance but it has been quieter here the birds simply move to another part of the site or ignore the machine.

A party of 22 Dunlin and a Ruff was the highlight here this morning

Kingfisher Hide

120 Lapwing on the fields with some Golden Plover and 5 Ruff, they commute to the ploughed field to the south of the hide.
