Recent sightings 5th - 7th December

Now the water level has been raised across the reserve, there has been an influx of waterfowl and waders to the Millennium Wetlands.

British Steel Hide

From the Steel hide has been, 62 Lapwing, 59 Black-headed Gulls and 67 Wigeon. Large numbers of Shelduck were visible out on the estuary with Curlew and Oystercatcher. 3 Avocets can be seen feeding close to the hide as well as a single Spoonbill.

Over on the Dafen Scrapes, large numbers of waterfowl are making use of the higher water levels, with Teal, Tufted Duck and Mallard being the most common. A small number of Black-tailed Godwit can also be see feeding around the scrapes.

Millennium Wetlands

Now the water level has been raised across the reserve, there has been an influx of waterfowl and waders to the Millennium Wetlands. 68 Teal, 80+ Gadwall and 14 Tufted Duck were seen from the Peter Scott hide, and a number of Black-tailed Godwit and Lapwing have been seen from the Herons Wing Hide. There has also been a Bar-tailed Godwit and a Goldeneye.

Large numbers of Starlings have been roosting in the Bittern reedbed as well as the reedbeds by the Welsh Water Hide. With sometimes thousands coming in at once in a murmuration.
