Autumn Berries

The season is really progressing and the hedgerows are filling with berries. Some of the Hawthorn shrubs down the Saltcot Loaning are heavy with haws that will be beneficial to the migrant Thrushes who will shortly start returning to our shores. The hedgerow management along this section is starting to show positive results. With the increasingly blustery weather and high rainfall over the past few years it is great that we have not seen any more windblown trees. In other parts of the reserve there are also Sloes, Blackberries and Rowan berries all appearing.

There have been no sightings of the Phalarope again this morning. Some Black-tailed Godwit remain on the Folly Pond as well as a solitary Greenshank and a male Pintail in eclipse moult.

The Pasture Pathway is once again closed due to the heavy downpours overnight. The Meadow and River Walks are now closed for the Season.
