Construction work is ongoing to replace the old footbridge to the reserve. An alternative route is available, but the Heron's Wing and Peter Scott hides will be closed until the work is complete. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Canoe Safari

Our canoes are available for you to hire again this summer!

Take in a new view of the wetlands and paddle your way around our looping waterway, looking for wildlife as you go. Will you be lucky enough to see a family of swans, dazzling dragonflies, a stunning kingfisher, or even a shy water vole?

The canoes will be available throughout the Carmarthenshire summer holidays (Saturday 20 July - Sunday 1 September), 12pm - 3pm each day, with the last canoes out at 3pm.

As a charity, we have limited resources so there is a charge of £12.50 per canoe to cover the cost of additional staff and maintaining the equipment. Please read the important safety information below before you pick up a paddle.

Electric Buggy

Enjoy a leisurely chauffeur-driven ride to the Canoe Safari Hut and back in our electric buggy.

Get a day-rider ticket for £2.50 and hop on whenever you need a lift! It's a great way to discover more of the reserve and make the most of your day with us.

A taxi ticket covers 1 person for the day (children must be accompanied by an adult) and is valid only on the day of purchase. Save money and buy a family taxi ticket for £5 from the shop. It covers you all for the whole day.

The electric buggy taxi will be available from 12pm - 3pm each day.

Important Info

Please carefully read through all of the important information below for full details and terms and conditions.

  • Over 5s only - sorry, but children under 5 years of age are not allowed in the canoes for safety reasons
  • Children between the ages of 5 and 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times
  • No solo canoeists
  • No previous experience required
  • Full instructions are given. Buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn at all times
  • Canoes cannot be booked in advance and are issued on a first-come-first-served basis

We use traditional Canadian canoes which usually accommodate two adults or an adult and a child over 5 years old. An additional child (aged between 5 and 9 years old) can also be accommodated, sitting on a canvas hammock seat suspended in the middle of the canoe.

There's no need to book! Canoe tickets can only be purchased on the day of your visit. Please pay for your canoe ticket at admissions when you arrive, and keep the ticket safe for presentation at the Canoe Safari hut.

The cost of admission to the centre is not included in the £12.50 canoe hire price.

Please bear in mind that canoeing does require some degree of physical effort and visitors paddle their own canoes; they are not accompanied by staff.

The Canoe Safari is considered a safe water environment. It is an enclosed, inland waterway and there are no tides or currents to contend with. The maximum depth is no more than three feet, but the bottom is muddy. Full safety cover provided.

Adverse Weather

If the weather is windy, the canoe safari may be closed for safety reasons. Even though it may not appear windy up at the centre, the location of the Canoe Safari means it can be quite exposed to the wind! Please check our Twitter and Facebook pages on the day you intend to visit to ensure you are not disappointed.
