Join author and poet Sarah Hunter for this nature journalling workshop, starting with a guided meditation session and a short journaling warm-up.

You will then set off into the reserve with three simple, mindful observation and gathering exercises. Back indoors, you will use what you have gathered to create short pieces for your journal and a haiku. Sharing is entirely optional and only if you feel comfortable.

The workshop will finish with a short meditation and guidance on how to keep using these techniques so that you can enjoy that beautiful experience again and again.

Sarah welcomes beginners to this workshop. It’s ok if your spelling, punctuation and grammar aren’t brilliant, or if you don’t have any birdwatching expertise, as this will be a wonderfully mindful experience that can be enjoyed by all.

About Sarah Hunter

Sarah Hunter is a writer of poetry and short stories, explorer of rockpools, barefoot meditator and tries to embrace a life that flows with the rhythmical changes of the seasons. Her poems cover a vast scope of the human experience, but her main focus is on our connection with the natural world. She has been a member of the UK Nature Wrights group since 2022, making regular contributions to their newsletters and projects. As part of the volunteer team, she also writes a blog and social media content for the RSPB Ribble Estuary. You can find her poetry and seasonal living blog on Substack. Her book, A Solstice Tale, is available on Amazon.

Sarah Hunter teaching a group as part of her nature journalling workshop. They are sat on chairs aaround what looks like an open campfire.

“Spending time in nature always makes me feel so relaxed, but in a very different way than a night in watching the telly. I feel restored, and that’s a big and important word. We’re always being told that we need to practice self-care and take the time to rest and replenish, and that is absolutely right.

You can’t keep going indefinitely,

But there is self-care and there is self-care. Some work at deeper, more profound levels than others. And I would certainly put nature journalling in the deeper category.

Time outdoors doesn’t have to mean a great big hike up a mountain or bagging a Wainwright, it can be as simple as allowing ourselves to absorb the amazing spectacle that Mother Nature puts on for us every moment of every single day.

Just sitting and soaking it all in.”
