Photography in Nature: Challenging Light and Exposure

What better time to take advantage of the beautiful Wetland Centre than in high summer when everything is in abundance! The birds are joined by their young, now hunting for food and finding their way. Flowers are radiant in colour and insects are at their most vocal and visible during the warmth of the day.

The brilliant light of August presents both opportunities and challenges from a photographic perspective. We explore ways to master intense sunlight, and also seek out more varied and diffused light opportunities. We look at key settings, including camera metering and how to use creative exposure for dramatic effect.

We delve into camera Histograms; and how to read and use the results in order to achieve an optimal exposure, especially in situations of challenging light and contrast.

Camera filters and tools to manage the light will also be explored. Feel free to bring any filters you have to the workshop.
