Photography in Nature: Close Up and Macro

In this workshop we learn about close up and macro photography, looking at how to photograph the seasonal flora and fauna that mark this vibrant and colourful time of year.

This is the perfect season to capture the proliferation of wildflowers throughout the wetland centre, including the delicate snake’s-head fritillaries and the vibrant orchids in glorious bloom. The summer months are also ideal for capturing butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies, which emerge and flourish in the warm summer sun.

We look at the many challenges associated with close up and macro photography, and how to overcome them. This includes how to manage light and contrast, and the exposure settings required to capture the variety of still and moving subjects.

We also examine sharpness and depth of field, as well as viewpoint, colour harmony and composition.
